Idle RPG

Idle RPG, or just IRPG, is the general class of satirical computer role-playing games (RPG) made for Internet Relay Chat (IRC).
The goal of an IRPG is to gain levels by remaining idle in the channel where the game takes place. Most IRC-related actions such as changing nicknames, speaking, departing the channel, etc. incur a penalty, which generally manifests as an increase of the time to level (TTL).
In addition to remaining idle, players typically also gain levels from finding items, battling other players, and so on; however, these actions are performed automatically for the player by a bot.
Some IRPGs allow for limited interaction by the players; the GameSurge variant known as GSRPG, for example, allows players to issue challenges to other players in an attempt to increase the leveling speed.
There is a 'full featured' implementation existing on Undernet's #IdleRPG channel. This variant has a much greater interaction than the default base game. It features patches from the official Forums, and has several private patches as well. Features include: betting, fights, challenges, slaying, power potions, upgrading/buying items, heroes, and extra tournaments.
A great many variants have also applied 'Tournament' patches such as the Super Death Match
or the Royal Tournament. Other tournaments less frequently seen in implementations are 'Blind', 'Quick', 'Item', 'Gold', and 'Champion's League'.
