iCurrency Plus is a currency tracker application for the iPhone OS. The basic approach of the application is rather than having a base currency (as other currency applications do) iCurrency Plus allows the addition of currency pairs, doing the conversion on the spot. The application claims to be the first currency tracking application in the Apple store that sends push notification to its subscribers with important changes in the currency pairs of their choice, based on conditions the users can pre-set. The main screen On the main screen the user can watch a chosen favorite currency pair as well as add new ones. When adding a currency pair, not only are the two currencies involved selected, but also the number of hours (or days) that the user wants to compare the rates against. By doing this, the application shows the current rate and the change in that rate compared to the historical value previously set as to a number of hours or days ago. As of Februay 7, 2009 there are no other applications in the Apple store that show this view. The application also allows the user to define, for each pair, a percentage number. When the difference in the rate compared to the number of hours or days ago is greater that this number, an extra arrow is shown for this pair, and eventually a push can be sent. The users will be informed when critical changes happen in any of the currency pairs of their choice. There are several ways to read the status of a pair in the main screen: Green blinking: a push was recently sent, confirming that the pair had changed in the past hours or days more than targeted. Green on: a push was sent a few hours ago about that pair, and the user has already seen that information. However, the pair in question has still changed more than what was originally set up. An arrow at the end confirms this information. Green off: the pair is set to send a push if the conditions set is met. The application is in stand by waiting for that condition to be met. Yellow blinking: a push was sent, however from the moment the push was sent until the current moment when the user is checking the application, the conditions are now not met. In other words, a currency got stronger or weaker than your settings but are now back to normal. Red on: push is disabled for that pair and although the arrow will be shown if the condition is met, a push will not be sent. Currency pair details Selecting any currency pair in the main screen will bring the appropriate details. This page displays the current rate and the change over the period of time specified, in both real values and percentage. It also shows the minimum and maximum value in that period of time, and when those values were reached. A graph at the bottom shows the progress in time of the particular pair. The user can select the period of time to display the graph, meaning daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly. An extra feature added in this graph is a very simple analysis tool: a blue band across the chart. This band is the current rate +/- the percentage specified to track changes. This band helps in understanding any previous pushes received. The calculator So far the application only show rates and rates specific information. However, a handy tool was added, allowing the user to know how much a specific price in one currency is in your local currency (or vice versa). Entering the price the user wants to convert and pressing the button of the currency the user wants to convert to; the calculator automatically assumes that the number entered is in the other currency of the pair. For example, if the user is living in Japan and is travelling to Brazil, the user may add the BRL/JPY (Brazilian Real vs. Japanese Yen) in the program before hand. This pair will provide the rate of one real to one yen. If the user is in a market in Brazil and is offered a product for 13.50 Real, the user would click in this pair, then click in the calculator and input 13.50, then press the button, "To JPY", and the equivalent in Japanese Yen, at that moment, will be shown. And vice versa, the same user can have an idea of how many Reals a 10,000 Yen bill is worth if exchanging at the airport.
