Icmus Sounds is a record label currently being developed at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. It is funded by the centre for excellence in teaching and learning, and aims to give both students and alumni of the University the opportunity to pursue a career in the music industry through the production, promotion and distribution of music CDs and downloads, compositions and transcriptions, and also academic books and publications. The label will also be pursuing consultancy work with similar projects in the future. The project has already won widespread acclaim as the winner of 'Blueprint- The North East Universities Business Planning Competition'. The label is looking to branch out into many different musical genres including world musics, studio compositions/electronica, folk and vernacular musics, rock and popular music and classical music. The label has recently released two records of North Indian Classical music as it's pilot projects, 'Shahbaz Hussain: Solo Tabla Recital with Ilyas Khan (Sarangi)' and 'Dr Vijay Rajput: Twilight Raags from North India'.
