Ian Caple

Ian Caple is an English Recording Engineer/Producer/Mixer.
He started his career as an assistant engineer at EMI Music 1979.
Career
After training & working at Abbey Road Studios he
became the Chief Engineer at KPM Studios in London
where he recorded a wide variety of artists such as Kate Bush and Adam & The Ants & Shriekback
He left in 1983 and has worked as a freelance engineer /producer /mixer ever since.
His first credits included engineering Echo & The Bunnymen and Simple Minds among others, as well as working with Julian Cope and The Sugarcubes. It was Caple's remix work for Tricky's single "Black Steel" that really helped to establish his name. This led to him mixing tracks for Tricky's album Nearly God and co-producing and mixing Tricky’s Pre-Millennium Tension album. He has also remixed singles for Faithless, Gravediggaz, deus, Stevie Wonder and Yoko Ono.
In 1992 he travelled to the U.S.A. to mix the Exit at the Axis E.P. for Seattle space-rock band Sky Cries Mary and returned to Seattle a year later to produce their album This Timeless Turning.
He has produced Stina Nordenstam - People are Strange album, the UK No.1 album Attack of the Grey Lantern for Mansun in 1996 including the much acclaimed single "Wide Open Space" (EMI), Sci-Fi Lullabies for Suede, and Alain Bashung (the French No. 1 Platinum album Fantaisie militaire which was subsequently voted album of the year), Following on from the success of the Bashung album, Caple started a long working relationship with French guitarist & writer Rodolphe Burger, producing his band Katonoma (EMI France) & co producing with him Jeanne Balibar's album paramour. He has mixed 3 albums for French star Jacques Higelin, Amor Doloroso in 2006, Coupe de foudre in 2010 (number 2 in France) & the double live album Paris / Zénith in 2010
In 1998 he mixed the album Kingsize for the Boo Radleys at Air Studios in London.
In 1999 he travelled to Australia to produce Australian singer/songwriter David Bridie the album, Act of Free Choice, was recorded in a large house at Mount Macedon in Victoria & Mixed in London.
He returned to Australia in 2003 to mix the next David Bridie album Hotel Radio.
2000-present
In 2000 Ian co-produced the Simple Pleasure album by the Tindersticks (Island Records) as well as their movie soundtracks for Nénette et Boni and Trouble Every Day by French director Claire Denis and the debut Gold album for Irish rock band JJ72. In 2001 he produced and mixed the album Faux Movement for Autour De Lucie (Sony Music France), Produced and mixed tracks for Cousteau (Palm Pictures), and mixed the soundtrack to the record-breaking movie Amelie for the French composer Yann Tiersen (Virgin France).
In 2002 Ian recorded & mixed the Tindersticks album "Can Our Love..." (Beggars' Banquet), and
recorded and mixed a live album Triplex for Thomas Fersen (Warner Music France).
Having produced and mixed the debut album by The Buffseeds for Sanctuary, Ian has also finished the year by producing an album for Les Hurleurs (Universal France).
At the end of 2003 he mixed songs without words for Paul Armfield (Groove Attack) produced Rock, You Can Fly by Lise Westzynthius for Auditorium and recorded new tracks for million-selling American singer Ryan Adams (Mercury Records) at RAK studios.
Recent projects have included producing the hit French album where the oceans end by Cocoon (Barclay/Universal) it was recorded in France & mixed in his studio in Sussex.
also no one knows we're here by French artist Alice Lewis, the debut album May by young Danish artist Broken Twin (Anti), producing French artist Kent (les temps des âmes album), mixing the latest Tricky album ‘False Idols’ & recording & producing the album Mue for major French star Emilie Simon (Barclay/Universal) in Paris, Engineering & mixing the Everything Changes album for veteran folk singer Peggy Seeger.
