Hurricanes Entertainment Team

The Hurricanes Entertainment Team is the official ice crew and the promotional team for the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes. The Entertainment Team participates in game-day activities, team events and is one of the league’s first hybrid Ice Crew & Fan Development teams.
History
1997-2020
With the Hartford Whalers moving to North Carolina in 1997, the team needed an Ice Crew to maintain the playing surface and hype up the crowd. Due to the Carolina Hurricanes playing their first 2 seasons in Greensboro, the Hurricanes opted to debut their promotional team, the "Storm Squad" at the 1999 opening of the Raleigh Entertainment & Sports Arena (now PNC Arena). Upon the debut of the Storm Squad, they were awarded the title as the first fan development/cheer team in the NHL.
For many seasons, the teams operated as their entities with the Ice Crew and Storm Squad carrying out separate duties. The Ice Crew strictly maintained the ice quality while the Storm Squad participated in on-ice activations, promotional material, and public appearances.
2021-Present
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the NHL suspended the 2019-20 Season. With this, it resulted in both teams being suspended until operations would resume in 2021. The Ice Crew would later resume operation but for unspecified reasons, the Storm Squad was not recalled for the 2021-22 NHL Season.
In August 2021, the Carolina Hurricanes made a press release across social media announcing an Ice Crew & Promotional team rebrand along with audition dates. With the rebrand, both teams would combine to form a unified, cast that would tend to game-day duties. The organization selected the names "Hurricanes Ice Crew" & "Canes Crew" for the new Entertainment Teams.
The team is one of the first of its kind in the NHL and is classified as a "hybrid" Ice Crew & Fan Development team.
