The humans.txt file credits and identifies the creators and software behind a website. The initiative can be compared to a colophon for web sites. It is a play on the name of the file robots.txt. The file is to be placed in the root of a web server, e.g.,
http://www.example.com/humans.txt
. It can be publicly viewed. There are no standards to the file. Developers are free to include whatever content they wish. The primary goal is to acknowledge contributors to a site. However, humanstxt.org has set up a standard guideline that nobody is required to follow. Examples * Google's humans.txt file * Flickr's humans.txt file * humanstxt.org's humans.txt file *
