Howard L. Hall Elementary School is part of the Cumberland County School System. It was named after Howard L. Hall (1918-1996). He was a member of the Cumberland County Board of Education for 28 years, and the school was named after him in honor of his long-time service. Howard L. Hall was a long time resident of Spring Lake, NC and was among the founding members of the Spring Lake Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Hall was an active supporter of Cumberland County Schools and was deeply humbled to have a school named in his honor. The children of Howard L. Hall School sent him handmade get well cards the week before he died. His granddaughter read many of them to him which prompted one of his last smiles. His favorite was a card that read 'You are our school and our school is you. Get well Mr. Hall so you can come see your school." Howard Hall is currently a classical school, meaning uniforms are worn and corporal punishment is allowed.
