Honsbridge International School

Honsbridge International (HBI) is a co-educational international school in Kota Damansara, Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia, founded in 2008.
HBI provides a British-based education curriculum for students ages 6 to 18 years old from Primary School (Year 1 to Year 6) and Secondary School (Year 7 to Year 11). HBI is one of the largest private co-educational schools in Malaysia, with a roll of around 500 students.
HBI is the only international school in Malaysia that offers the Express / Fast-Track IGCSE Cambridge education and examinations, with no license from the ministry. Students who opt for this option, can complete their Year 7 to Year 11 in less than 4 years instead of the normal 5 years route.
History
Origins
Founded in 2008, as Honsbridge Academy, the school was established by Hon family, in Kota Damansara, Petaling Jaya, Selangor. Honsbridge Academy was the first international school that offered the Express / Fast-Track IGCSE Cambridge , in Malaysia. Subsequently, Honbridge Academy was changed to Honsbridge International in 2016.

School location
Due to its rapid expansion, the school will be moving, which is more spacious and still within the same vicinity, located at Selangor. This is also to commemorate the organization's 10th Year Anniversary.
International examinations
Honsbridge Academy runs the Cambridge International General Certificate of Education examination, as the school follows the British curriculum for Year 1 to Year 11.

Primary education (Year 1 to Year 6)
Honsbridge International's Primary School provides an international, British-based curriculum for the students, aged between 6 to 13 years old. Science, English, Mathematics, Literature, Malay Language and Mandarin are taught by classroom teachers, alongside of appreciation subjects such as Reading Appreciation, Music / Dance / Public speaking Appreciation and Physical Education Appreciation, that are incorporated into the students curriculum. This is to prepare students for their Checkpoint in Year 6.
Lower secondary education (Year 7 to Year 9)
Honsbridge International's Lower Secondary School provides an international, British-based curriculum for the students aged between 11 to 16 years old. Science, English, Mathematics, Literature, Malay Language, History and Mandarin are taught by specialized teachers, alongside of appreciation subjects such as Geography Appreciation, Music / Dance / Public speaking Appreciation and Physical Education Appreciation, that are incorporated into the students curriculum. This is to prepare students for their Checkpoint in Year 9. Students can also opt for the Express / Fast Track system, where they can complete their Year 7 to Year 9 within 2 years (4 semesters).
Upper secondary education (Year 10 to Year 11)
Honsbridge International's Upper Secondary School provides an international, British-based curriculum for the students aged between 14 to 18 years old. English, Mathematics, Business Studies, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Literature, Malay Language, History, Additional Mathematics, Accounting and Mandarin are taught by specialized teachers, alongside of enrichment subjects such as Debate, Music, Dance, Public speaking, Arts & Crafts and Physical Education, that are incorporated into the students curriculum. This is to prepare students for their Cambridge International Examinations IGCSE O-Level examinations.
Staff
The principal of Honsbridge International is Emma Furze, and Dominic Hon Kuan Yew who is the Vice Principal of the school. The school employs over 80% of local teachers, and 20% expatriates, mostly originating from Britain. In addition to the large teaching staff, the school employs administrative staff, counsellors and student service staff.

Since 2008, within 10 years, HBI has prods (A*), Chemistry (A*), Business Studies (A), English Literature (A), History (A), Accounting (A), Economics (A), Malay Language (A*), Mandarin (A*), and Biology (A*), since 2010.

Student life
Sports houses
There are four houses in HBI - Wolverines, Tigers, Hulks and Phantoms. Each house has a colour: Green, White, Purple and Yellow. They also have their own respective house mascots. The House mascots are based on the Marvel Comics Superheroes, where Yellow House is Wolverine, Green House is Hulk, White House is White Tiger, and Purple House is Phantom.
There are competitions between the four houses, and there is a main sports event (Honsbridge Sports Day) that showcase the strong rivalries. Along with this, there are other competitions between the houses, such as thed weekly merits competition. New students will be allocated in a random house. But if new students have a sibling whom joined first, they will not be in the same house as their sibling(s).

Sports
Apart from academic excellence, Honsbridge International has a proud sporting tradition. Students are to participate in futsal, badminton, dodgeball, Captain's Ball, shot put, running and many other sport activities with the school.
Extra-Curricular activities (ECA) / clubs
Students of HBI are also required to take one or more, of the ECA / Clubs which, consists of; Debate Club, Boardgames Club, Dance Club, Futsal Club, Badminton Club, and Arts & Crafts Club.
School calendar
The school academic year starts at the beginning of January. There are two terms and with each term there is a mid-term break of 1-2 weeks. These usually coincide with holidays such as Chinese New Year in the first term, , Deepavali and Christmas in the second term.
A typical academic calendar for HBI would be 1 - January to June (Term break: June to July) / Term 2 - July to November (Term break: December to January). HBI also observes all the Malaysia National and the Selangor State Puolidays.
Examination periods usually occurs usually taking up one week for lower secondary school (Years 7-9) and two weeks for upper secondary school (Years 10-11).
