Homegrown: Community Agriculture and a Better Tomorrow

Homegrown: Community Agriculture and a Better Tomorrow is a book written by Benjamin R. Smith, with contributions from Patrick Johnson. The book explains the work that an organization, Homegrown Kentucky, has undertaken in their home state. Much of that work entails forming community agriculture projects in impoverished areas in order to augment their economic stability, their levels of health and well-being, and the soundness of their environment. The organization also focuses much attention on partnerships with schools and interactive curriculum tied to community agriculture, in addition to building a sense of community pride, camaraderie, and resilience.
The book itself is wide ranging in scope, as it makes general arguments about the states of health, the economy, education, and the environment in contemporary America. In addition to exploring the problems present in each area, the book proposes a number of solutions in each context, with each being tied to community agriculture and the general framework it provides. Other topics include the implementation of community ag. projects geared towards addressing the areas touched on in the book, with specific advice offered to the readers on how to do so in a successful manner.
