Hindustani people

The Hindustani people are an Indo-Aryan ethno-linguistic group that is composed of those who are native speakers of the Hindustani language. They primarily live in Hindustan (used in the narrow sense), i.e., that region in northern India, east and south of Yamuna river, between the Vindhya mountains and the Himalayas, where the Hindustani language is spoken. This region consists of the four Indian States of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and Haryana. Hindustani people are also found in significant numbers in the city of Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, and in Pakistan (Muhajirs).

The Hindustani language is divided into two very similar dialects. Those Hindustanis that are Hindu (about 80%) speak the Hindi language, written in the Devanagari script, whereas those Hindustanis that are Muslim speak the Urdu language, written in Arabic script.

Hindustanis today

Today, the Hindustanis are advancing in all areas of science and technology, developing nuclear energy and space travel. Many business leaders in the computer industry, both in India and in Silicon Valley in the United States, are Hindustani.

Hindustani cuisine

Hindustani cuisine is based on rice, to which beans, meat, poultry, or fish may be added. The dishes are topped by various sauces, a favorite sauce being curry.
