HighGrow is a freeware computer program popularized on the Internet chiefly by numerous cannabis enthusiast sites [http://www.google.com/search?q=HighGrow+marijuana] that invites a user into "Legal Cannabis Growing" on a computer screen. The program, compatible with Windows, takes a form similar to the popular virtual pet games whereby players care for their pets by feeding, watering, and playing with them on a regular basis. In HighGrow, a player's objective is to grow cannabis, and does so by planting virtual seeds and then regularly watering, fertilizing, adjusting the lights height and timing and pruning the plants (harvesting). Overview The authors have attempted to design the game to behave consistently with real marijuana growing experiences. Growing a virtual marijuana plant with HighGrow takes a similar amount of time as growing a real plant - several months. Each day, the plants grow a very small amount; the appearance doesn't change much and there is not much to observe in real time. Starting a virtual plant is much like starting a real one — the goal is for greener and fuller vegetation. A neglected plant will wither and die if its owner fails to tend to the necessities like regular watering and providing nutrients. The program presents a pre-made selection of more than 30 different strains of cannabis (both the indica and sativa varieties) - each with its own seeds. According to the program documentation, it is possible for growers to pollinate their plants and produce additional offspring seeds. These seeds can be exported to a file and re-planted elsewhere, in another growroom, by importing the seed files. Versions HighGrow has been through four major revisions. The most recent version is numbered 4.20, a number widely associated with cannabis. Preceding it is version 3.0 and 2.0.
