Herpes nosodes

((wikify))
Nosodes are homeopathic medicines made from pathogens including Viruses and Bacteria. Homeopaths believe that nosodes in conjunction with the "like cures like" principles of homeopathy encourage the bodies immune system to create anti-bodies which then contain the infection being treated. Opponents of homeopathy consider all nosodes like the rest of homeopathy to be a pseudo science. One study conducted in France showed Nosodes benefitting 82% of Genital herpes patients who had no or reduced episodes of viral outbreaks for 5 years after taking nosodes for 6 months. Placebos in general are believed to work 40 to 50% of the time and therefore this initial data seemed promising. The objective of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a homeopathic complex in terms of intensity of attacks and duration of remission between attacks of genital herpes. Fifty three patients aged 18 or over with a minimum of four attacks annually were followed in this open multicentre study in a primary care setting. The principal parameters analysed were: frequency of attacks; intensity of symptoms, during treatment and/or after stopping treatment; treatment tolerance. 82 percent of patients treated for recurrent genital herpes benefited. In 41% of cases, there was no recurrence after the first treatment with follow-up of between 8 and 50 months. In 32% of patients, one or two relapses, in 9% of patients recurrences continued but with reduced frequency and intensity. No randomized double blind study has been done for herpes nosodes. This study was conducted for 53 patients and was never submitted for FDA drug approval.
2LHerp, h-factor & Bio88 are brand names for some of the herpes nosodes available today. They are made by homeopathic speciality manufacturers like Reckeweg and Biogetica.
