Henrietta Hughes is an unemployed and formerly homeless woman who on February 10, 2009 pleaded publicly to President Barack Obama for financial assistance in a town hall meeting in Fort Myers, Florida. She has received massive media coverage as a result of that, being seen as a voice of the poor during the recent U.S. economic recession. A blogging web site has been established to discuss the U.S. economic crisis based on the plight by Henrietta Hughes. Henrietta Hughes was offered use of a home by Chene Thompson, wife of Nick Thompson, a Fort Myers, Florida Republican politician who serves as the Representative for District 73 in the Florida House of Representatives. The location of this home is in LaBelle, FL, a town about two hours from Ft. Myers.
