Henri Jean-Pierre Herbert (born February 13, 1985 in Harfleur, France) is a British/French pianist, keyboardist and occasional vocalist, known for his work with rock and roll group The Stargazers, Laura B & The Moonlighters and the Cadillac Kings, as well as for his extensive solo discography.
Biography
Early Years
Herbert was educated at Holland Park Primary School, in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex, the same primary school as current Wycombe Wanderers footballer and Ipswich Town legend Ian Westlake.
Herbert then continued his studies at Colchester Royal Grammar School, whilst honing his piano skills and making his first forays into writing lyrics. During his time at CRGS Herbert became renowned for his unusual personal mannerisms, including but not exclusive to wearing duffle coats in the summer, endlessly repeating teachers' catchphrases and considering field hockey to be a game worth playing.
Musical career
While still at Colchester Grammar School, Herbert played his first gig, and began a two year residency at Harry's Bar in Colchester, leading to some guest slots at the 100 Club, London.
Whilst studying at Nottingham University, Herbert made a name for himself as a piano prodigy, able to play styles as varied as honky tonk, boogie woogie, Dixieland jazz and blues. It was here that Henri met local blues luminary Colon Staples who hugely influenced his playing style.
He could often be found performing at Nottingham Rock City, either supporting such luminaries as Joe Bonamassa, Jeff Healey and Glenn Tilbrook, who described his playing as "fantastic", or headlining in his own right.
This reputation as a versatile performer led to Herbert being headhunted as a session performer and recruited into bands such as The Stargazers and the Cadillac Kings.</br>
