Helibomber is a freeware arcade-style game created by inspired by similar classic games like Choplifter. The original game was released in 1999 via the S+F Software web site. In 2003, the game received new attention when a revamped DX version was released featuring new graphics and updated game-play. This version also featured the original release as "classic mode." Helibomber DX is available for Windows. The original release of the game is no longer available through S+F Software.
While the game does not seem to feature a true story, the loose plot pits the player against a never-ending assault from enemy soldiers and tanks. The player's goal is to drop bombs on these enemies earning the highest score possible. If ten enemies are able to successfully pass the player and make it off the right side of the screen, the player loses.
During the 2004 Midwest Gaming Classic, a version of the game for the Sega Dreamcast was shown. This version seemed strictly modeled after the DX version of the title not including the original 1999 release. Still a work in progress at the time, the fate of this version is unknown.
