Profile

HeadCount was originally founded in 1994 by Mark Ryski, then a marketing manager at Softwarehouse (now CompuSmart). Although Mark went on to a career at Intuit Canada, he kept HeadCount as a side business. Mark eventully left his post as Director of Sales and Marketing at Intuit to work with HeadCount full-time in 2001.

The company's approach was different than other traffic counting companies that sold devices commonly referred to as a people counter. HeadCount wanted to help retailers gain the benefits from tracking customers by offering a service rather than just selling people counters.

Company Milestones

In 2005, Mark Ryski wrote the first book to be published on the topic of people counting, titled When Retail Customers Count.

In 2006, HeadCount signed an exclusive agreement with the Retail Council of Canada (RCC) to be the preferred vendor for RCC members.

In 2007, Mark Ryski presented at the Retail Council of Canada's STORE 2007 conference.
