Hauppauge Volunteer Fire Department

Hauppauge Volunteer Fire Departmentis is a Professional Volunteer Agency that provides fire and rescue services to the residents of the Hauppauge Fire District in Hauppauge, New York. The Department is made up of all volunteers plus paid housemen, who respond to approximately 1000 calls each year. The Department operates 6 fire engines, a 100 foot ladder truck, a heavy rescue truck, fire police and a technical rescue team.
History
The Hauppauge Fire Department was formed in 1931. The Department started out with only 14 men. At that time the fire district of Hauppauge was very rural, consisting of farms and wooded areas. Since then the Department has expanded with the development of its District.
District
The Hauppauge Fire District today consists of many commercial, industrial and residential structures. The district is home to one of the largest industrial parks in North America and is also home to Headquarters of Computers Associates. The District also is home to many large hotels, stores and State buildings. Many large roads run through the District as well, including the Long Island Expressway, the Northern State Parkway, Veterans Memorial Highway, Motor Parkway, Route 347 and other large roads.
Apparatus
The Hauppauge Fire Department operates a number of apparatus. The Department has 6 class A engines which are capable of pumping 2000 gallons per minute and are also equipped with multiple other tools to deal with fire and rescue situations. The department also operates a ladder truck that is equipped with a 100’ ladder and other rescue tools as well as a heavy rescue truck that is equipped with many tools to deal with special rescue situations such as motor vehicle accidents and building collapses. Along with special apparatus is the Departments technical rescue truck. This truck is equipped with many special tools and materials to deal with very special technical situations such as building collapses, confined space rescue, rope rescue, trench rescue and other situations needing special tools.
Stations
The Hauppauge Fire Department has 3 stations. Its headquarters is located on Wheeler Road in Hauppauge and is home to Truck Company 1 and Engine Company 4. Station 2 is located on Terry Road in Hauppauge and is home to Engine Company 1. Station 1 is located on Ledgewood Drive and is home to Engine Company 3.
Companies
*Engine Company 1- Engine Company located and responsible for the east end of the District. They operate two class A engines.
*Truck Company 1 - Truck Company Located at the Department Headquarters and responsible for all truck work throughout the District. They operate one 100 foot ladder truck and one heavy rescue.
*Engine Company 3 - Engine Company located and responsible for the west end of the District. They operate two class A engines.
*Engine Company 4 - Engine Company located at Headquarters and responsible for the center of the District. They operate two class A engines.
*Technical Rescue - Specialized team designed to handle special calls such as building collapses, confined space rescues, trench rescues, and rope rescues in the District or to assist surrounding Districts. Team located at District Headquarters.
*Fire Police - Company responsible for controlling traffic and bystanders at all fires and rescues. Operate a converted box ambulance and located at the District Headquarters.
