Haunt is a black metal solo project formed in Salem, Oregon, United States, by musician Perthro. Active since the mid-2010s, Haunt is known for a raw, lo-fi sound in the tradition of second-wave black metal. The project operates independently, with all music, vocals, lyrics, and production handled by Perthro. History Haunt began releasing material in 2017, with early recordings featuring deliberately low-fidelity production and themes associated with death, darkness, and occultism. The project's first known full-length release, the self-titled album Haunt, was recorded between October 2016 and April 2017 and issued physically by Caligo Arcanum Productions in 2019 in a limited run of 333 copies. Subsequent releases, including Grimoires of Undead Power and Something Near, continued to develop the project’s use of ambient elements, distorted instrumentation, and horror-themed atmospheres. All releases have been independently distributed or released through underground labels. Musical Style Haunt's music is characterized by raw black metal production, including heavy use of distortion, tape hiss, minimalist arrangements, and high-pitched shrieked vocals. The compositions often include slow to mid-tempo riffs, lo-fi drum programming, and atmospheric segments. Lyrically and thematically, Haunt's work focuses on death, necromancy, and supernatural imagery. Some albums include samples from horror films or other ambient sources to enhance the macabre atmosphere.
