Hassan Zarezadeh Ardeshir

Hassan Zarezadeh Ardeshir is a human rights defender and journalist, currently living in Toronto, Canada He was the spokesman of the United Student Front, the biggest student radical secular democrat group in Iran, and founder of the first student human rights organization, which is called the Student Committee for Defense of Political Prisoners.
Ardeshir was arrested 12 times during his student and human rights activities before he fled the country. He spent two years in solitary confinement and experienced few prisons and detention centers under torture.
In 2007, One year after he resided in Canada, Human Rights Watch announced that seven Iranians including Hassan Zarezadeh Ardeshir are among the writers who received the prestigious Hellman/Hammett prize, an award that recognizes writers globally who have been victims of political persecution.
Hassan Zarezadeh Ardeshir is now the director of the International Center for Human Rights for Iran in Toronto.
