The Sydney Morning Herald states that Mclean appears to be one of the key organizers of COVID lockdown protests that turned violent on 24 July 2021, which were condemned by NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller. Mclean stated that the protests were about resisting "authoritarian restrictions" in regards to COVID-19 lockdowns and declared to his followers "we will not comply" when referring to government measures such as mask mandates. Whilst the protests were supported by anti-vaxxer organizations, they resulted in 63 people being arrested and 35 others charged for various offences, including the assault of a police officer. At least 90 fines were issued for breaches of the public health.
