Hardtack is a set of rules for American Civil War miniature wargaming by Lou Zocchi. It was published as a thirty-page pamphlet by Guidon Games in 1971, with an introduction by Gary Gygax and artwork by Don Lowry. Lowry also contributed a miniatures painting guide. The game is intended for play on a table with terrain. Units in the game are classified as infantry, cavalry, or artillery. Infantry can move up to 70mm in a turn and cavalry 120mm. The range of artillery is 1000mm. The outcome of an attack is determined by the roll of a six-sided die; for example artillery normally destroys an enemy unit on a roll of 5 or 6, but a 6 is needed if the enemy unit is behind cover. Lowry promoted the game with an issue of Panzerfaust Magazine dedicated to the American Civil War. TSR later acquired remaindered inventory of Hardtack from Guidon Games which it sold by mail order.<ref name=patw/>
