Hangover Hannukah is a drinking game created by students at the University of Richmond. Equipment *1 Table (preferably not glass) *1 Dreidel *Plastic Cups *Beer *Coins
Set up Every player has a plastic cup filled with beer to the first ridge (or roughly 1/3 of the way). Two cups (called "change cups") are set in the middle of the table such that every player is roughly the same distance from either or both cups. Another cup (called the "spirit cup") is filled just below the brim and is put aside.
Gameplay Everybody takes turns spinning the dreidel. A legal spin is determined by the party playing; however, traditionally, a spin is legal if it lasts more than two seconds long and the dreidel spins vertically. The spinner may spin the dreidel in anyway he/she chooses, so long as the spin stays legal. Each Hebrew letter represents a different subsequent action of the party playing: *Nun: Spinner turns around (so that he/she does not see the rest of the players) and all other players pass around the spirit cup, filled a touch below the brim with beer. Spinner says “stop” whenever he/she chooses, and player with the spirit cup in hand has to drink it. *Shin: Players to the left and right of the spinner pour their beers into the spinner’s cup and the spinner drinks the cup *Gimel: All players but spinner toast “L’Chayim” and play every-man-for-himself Flip cup; loser drinks spinner’s beer *Hei: All players must get a coin into either of the two change cups by throwing, bouncing, or any means other than physically placing it in. The players to the left and right of the last person to make his/her coin into a change cup pour their beers into that player's cup, which he/she must then drink. The dreidel is passed in a clockwise rotation. After one drinks his/her beer the cup is refilled.
Fouls and Consequences The fouls include: #Dreidel falling off the table #Illegal spin #Interference, defined as contact between the spinning dreidel a player’s cup or body. An interference is the fault of the player interfering, not of the spinner. #Spilling the money cup as it’s being passed around (after a Nun spin) #Elbows of a player tossing a coin passing the edge of the table (after a Hei spin) For each foul, the person who fouls must drink his or her beer. For 1-3, the spinner gets to re-spin. For 4, in addition to drinking his/her own beer the player who fouls must drink the money cup, the Nun game is over, and the dreidel is passed on. For 5, the player who fouls must drink his/her beer and then resume playing, even if it means he/she will lose. If he/she loses, his/her cup must be refilled before receiving the beers of the players to the left and right.
