Gwendolyn and Adolph Koldofsky Memorial Scholarship

The Gwendolyn and Adolph Koldofsky Memorial Scholarship or Gwendolyn and Adolph Koldofsky Memorial Endowed Scholarship is an endowed scholarship offered by the USC Thornton School of Music to commemorate Gwendolyn Koldofsky and .
History
Gwendolyn Koldofsky created the Department of Accompanying at the music school in 1947, which was the first degree granting program of its kind in the world. She founded the annual Koldofsky Fellowship in Accompanying scholarship at the music school in 1951 upon the death of her husband and collaborator Adolph, a violinist. Upon her death in 1998, the scholarship became the Gwendolyn and Adolph Koldofsky Memorial Scholarship.
Funding
The scholarship is funded in part by benefit concerts and masterclasses, including ones by
*10/1999: Marilyn Horne on her farewell recital tour, with pianist Martin Katz, soprano Ruth Golden, and violist Donald McInnes;
*2/1999: soprano Elizabeth Hynes, violinist Donald McInnes, pianist Alan Smith, harpist JoAnn Turovsky, and special guest artist Emily Bernstein on clarinet;
*1990: Donald McInnes introducing Robert Suderburg's "Solo Music II: Ritual Cycle of Lyrics and Dances" for unaccompanied viola;
*1986: Raymond Beegle with the New York Vocal Arts Ensemble;
*1985: Marilyn Horne Concert Gala benefiting both the Marilyn Home Scholarship for Voice and the Gwendolyn Koldofsky Fund established for piano students;
*1983: Jean Barr, piano; Armen Guzelimian, piano; Milton Thomas, viola; Gabor Rejto, cello; Peter Rejto, cello; David Young, double bass; Roger Stevens, flute; Mitchell Lurie, clarinet; Rick Todd, French horn; Ken Watson, percussion and a guest narrator;

*1959: Marilyn Horne presenting the 9th annual (or 8th ) Koldofsky memorial concert, with proceeds going to the scholarship fund. Prior memorial concert series presenters included Lotte Lehmann, Gabor Rejto, Vera Appleton, Michael Field, and Marvin Hayes.
*1958: Maxim Schapiro (pianist) with Joy Kim (USC '51) (soprano), with SC faculty Eudice Shapiro, Glenn Swan, violinists; Sanford Schonbach, violist; Gabor Rejto, cellist;
*1956: Eva Heinitz playing the viola de gamba, with Alice Ehlers, harpsichord, playing "Le Trombeau pour Monsieur Lully" and "Suite in A Minor", both by Marin Marais;
*1954: Zara Nelsova, cellist in 3rd annual benefit concert which includes sonatas by Boccherini, Beethoven and Kodaly, and compositions by Scriabin, Prokofiev, and Tschaikowsky;
*1953: Lotte Lehmann conducted a masterclass for the benefit of the fund, including 12 vocalists: Phyllis Althof, soprano; Marvin Hayes, basso; Monas Harlan, tenor; Marjorie Low, soprano; Joy Kim, Mary Frances Pierson, Jacqueline Horne, Melvyn Cobb, Harold Enns, Norma Smith, John Nosches, and John Lundberg;
*1951: Herta Glaz accompanied by Gwendolyn Koldofsky;
*1951: Lotte Lehmann conducted a masterclass for the benefit of the fund that Marilyn Horne recounts participating in.
