Gus Mozart

Gus Mozart (November 20, 1919 - February 28, 1994) was the first Volkswagen dealer in California, and is memorialized by a headstone carved with an image of a Volkswagen Beetle.
Mozart's first dealership was on First Street, Los Altos, California, across from the Los Altos train station (off Main; the train tracks were later converted to Foothill Expressway), starting as a Hudson dealership in 1949. In 1954, Mozart Motor Co. was a Hudson, Desoto, and Plymouth dealer, when Mozart accepted an invitation to be the first Volkswagen dealer on the West Coast.
During the 1970's it was considered one of the largest VW/Porsche Audi dealerships in the United States. Located off route 101 in Palo Alto, it was later sold to Carl Carlson in 1978. He retired as a Rolls Royce dealer in 1982.
Gus Mozart was married to Myrtle Mozart from 1940 to 1993 and had 4 kids, years 1942 to 1962 being the youngest. He left his wife Myrtle (died October 15, 2010) in 1992; his second wife of two years, Angela Provorse Mozart (March 2, 1963 - November 4, 2012) is interred alongside him.
