Groovened Death Metal

Groovened Death Metal (also referred to as Groove/Death Metal or Death/Groove Metal is a combination of Death Metal music with modern day Groove Metal.

Stylistic origins

Groovened Death Metal style of playing appeared first in the early 1990's with Brazilian Metal side Sepultura decided to edge their original Blackened Death Metal towards a more "groovier" approach. Their 1996 hit "Roots" is a perfect example of this. The Black Metal style did not appear on the album. But the Death Metal side was definitly present.

However, modern day bands such as: Six Feet Under, Soulfly and even Death Metal band Cannibal Corpse have shown signs of Groove Metal roots most notablly on their 1994 hit "The Bleeding". and their most recent release KILL showed roots of grooving also.

Groovened Death Metal involves a more grooving style of death metal when compared to typical Death Metal bands. However, while most death metal bands play at fast tempos, Groovened Death Metal bands often perform a slower, mid-tempo or Dance influenced paced songs.
