Biography
Youth
Bradley Wright was born in Rangiora, New Zealand on July 27, 1990, and grew up in the country town, North Loburn of North Canterbury, Christchurch. His father was a Factory Controller for Carter Holt Harvey, a MDF timber producer; the senior Wright remains active with the enviromentally progressive company.
Wright first learned to play guitar as a teenager. He never took lessons, but learned in his own manner, which produces a unique sound and playing style with his instrument, as he is left handed and plays right-handed. He first attempted bass at around fifteen due to inspirations such as Mike Dirnt and Fat Mike.
Wright listened to many types of music, but was especially fond of bands such as Green Day and Nirvana before discovering a wider variety of punk rock and hardcore in 2006 when introduced to bands such as Black Flag, Fugazi and The Replacements . He was particularly influenced by the band Jawbreaker.
Early bands
Bradley Wright's first band consisted of two performances as Adams Rock in the summer of 2006, performing a songs titled "Full Time Job" and "Staring at the Sun" alongside various Green Day and Misfits covers. The band did not record music and the songs have subsequently been lost.
In Wrights's next project, Going Nowhere Fast, he played bass guitar and sang back up vocals in from 2007-2009.
His brother Jono Wright has also been active in several notable punk bands, such as Brain Dead and Popping Candy.
Bad Mouth
After feeling creatively limited in Going Nowhere Fast, Wright was determined to be bassist and primary lyricist for Bad Mouth (2009-2011). Wright, alongside friends Declan Cooke and Johnny Fast started a hardcore-tinged punk band. Bad Mouth were modestly successful in and around Christchurch, but would later be cited as one of the most influential new punk groups, of the 2010's.
After Bad Mouth broke up, Wright continued to write lyrics and music with Johnny, later leading to the formation of Novocaine Radio.
Novocaine Radio
In 2011, Bradley and John founded Novocaine Radio. It has been cited as one of the most important hardcore groups. Novocaine Radio set itself apart from most other bands by never getting a drummer or playing any shows. They have currently recorded one demo, Demo 2012 one single, The Road To Hell Is Paved With Good Intentions and a 7-track EP titled TACTICS, which the band wrote, recorded, mixed, mastered and released in 48 hours to rave reviews.
Cut Yr Teeth Records
Wright co-founded Cut Yr Teeth Records with Johnny Fast in 2011 and it continued as a DIY project where he and his friends learned how to literally make records. The label was originally meant only as a means for distributing the Bad Mouth This is Invasion and Short Stories for Stupid Kids EPs, but over the years it became a very well established independent record label, as well as a source for a variety of different Christchurch area punk and alternative artists. Wright notes that the focus on local musicians was inspired by early DIY labels such as Dischord Records and SST Records. Today more than 5 titles have been released by Cut Yr Teeth. The label has become notorious for its success despite its tendency to stray away from major label tactics for attracting monetary gains.
