The Groove Cruise is a floating electronic dance music festival held aboard a multitude of cruise lines, occupying 23,000 passengers every year. It sails from either Miami, FL in January, or Los Angeles, CA in October of each year. 2016 will mark 12 years of cruises since its beginnings in 2004, and also its first five-day cruise, sailing out of San Diego, CA. Each event starts with a pre-party the night before embarkment in the city of departure, featuring DJs that will sail with the music cruise for 72-120 hours of nonstop partying the following morning. The event is put on in partners with Redbull, AB InBev, Perrier, , Bacardi, Carnival, Celebrity Cruises, Vita Coco, Coronoa, MSC Cruises, Popchips, American Eagle Outfitters, Norwegian Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean International, and Bud Light. Itinerary Groove Cruise Miami Groove Cruise Miami leaves out of the Port of Miami and travels to Grand Turk, in January for four days of beach and pool parties, as well as themed extravangazas, and onboard events in correlation to music festivals around the world. Previous cruises have included travel to Jamaica, Great Stirrup Cay, Cozumel, and Nassau. After 96 hours, the ship returns to the Port of Miami, ending the event with a sunrise party on the pool deck of the ship. Groove Cruise LA Groove Cruise LA leaves out of the Port of Los Angeles and travels to Catalina Island and Ensenada Mexico in October. Beginning in 2013, it was the first fully chartered EDM festival in the history of west coast, taking its second year in 2014, with its most recent embarkment in 2015. Groove Cruise Cabo Groove Cruise Cabo leaves out of the Port of San Diego in October, with overnight stops in Cabo San Lucas. The ship returns to the Port of San Diego after five days of embarkment, making it the World’s Longest Electronic Floating Festival aboard the Norwegian Sun cruise liner. In addition to music, all events host a DJ submission contest, where music producers and aspiring DJs have the chance to submit a track prior to embarkment, in turn earning them a spot on board as an artist, giving them the chance to play alongside another artist on board as well. They can do so through a remix contest or track submission. Past winners include Dean Mason, KSF, Keith Christopher (MANPRETTY), J. Worra, and Scottobahn. Guest judges have included Dirty South, Eric Morillo, Sydney Blu, EC Twins, and Chuckie. Past Groove Cruises have upwards of 50 artists performing on 9 different stages. Non-Profit Division Whet Travel gives back to each destination in Florida, the Caribbean, and Mexico, all visited through Whet Foundation’s program Destination Donation. Everyone on the ship is asked to bring school supplies, clothing, and other items generally for an orphanage or a local charity that works with underprivileged children.
