Groningen Journal of International Law

The Groningen Journal of International Law (abbreviation: GroJIL) is a not-for-profit, open access, electronic law journal edited by students of the University of Groningen. It publishes issues on a wide range of disciplines within international law.
Although the journal is relatively young, its notability in the field of public international law is rising.
History
The journal was founded in 2012 as a Stichting under the Register of Commerce in the Netherlands. It published its first issue in May 2012. Following this, there have been publications of 2 issues in each consecutive volume released from 2013 to 2016.
The 2016 issue hosted the first Student Writing Competition which grants students of the University of Groningen an opportunity to explore legal academic publishing. Since its launch, the competition is expected to be held annually.
In March 2017, GROJIL started a blog entitled International Law under Construction. The blog aims to provide academics and students a means by which to interact and discuss ideas.
Throughout its existence, the journal has been consistent in maintaining its own distinct brand.
Affiliation with the University of Groningen
Though the journal is a Dutch Foundation in its own right and, thus, independent from the University of Groningen, it forms close ties with the university's students. Members of its editorial board and committees are students of the University of Groningen. It further encourages students to submit their work through the Student Writing Competition and its promotional events are advertised directly to the students.
Events
For promotional purposes, the journal has held events in conjunction with the release of a new issue. These events have included a forum on drones in international law as well as a guest lecture on human trafficking with guests Nicole Siller, PhD. Candidate at the University of Groningen and Kees Klomp, Judge at The Hague Court of Appeal. Besides events, the journal also promotes through its social media account, primarily Twitter.
