Greg Quam

Greg Quam (born January 11, 1972) is a former American amateur baseball outfielder and Ironman triathlete from Sacramento. In a career spanning from 1980 to 1995, Quam attended San Diego State University for three years and played in the Alaska Baseball League and the Sacramento Stan Musial League for 4 seasons, with teams Alaska Goldpanners, Peninsula Oilers, Sacramento Cardinals and the Sacramento Angels. On May 22, 2004, Quam competed in the California Man triathlon in Folsom California.
Early life
Born in Sacramento California to Marvin Quam and Sara Quam, Quam grew up in the South Sacramento area and attended Valley High School and excelled in baseball. He played on the junior varsity team for the first half of his freshman year and was called-up to the varsity team, where he played the ramainder of his high school career. As a freshman Greg Quam was recuited by the legendary Sacramento City College baseball coach, Paul Carmazzi, to play on the American Legion team, Kennedy-Valley, which won the California State Championship, but lost in the Regional Tournament in Casper, Wyoming. Quam was one of the few players to play four seasons of American Legion baseball in Sacramento, California.

In 1991 SDSU Aztec Freshman Greg Quam hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the 10th inning Friday night to give San Diego State a 6-4 victory over Brigham Young to advance to the finals of the Western Athletic Conference baseball tournament. The Aztecs (41-19), who eliminated Wyoming in a losers' bracket game earlier Friday, was scheduled to face unbeaten Hawaii (48-14) Saturday for the double-elimination tournament title.With the score tied 4-4, the game went into the extra inning before Quam hit his home run over the right field fence, bringing in Rick Page from second.
Also, in the summer of 1991, Quam played in the amateur Alaska Baseball League with the Alaska Goldpanners of Fairbanks, winning the ABL championship; the first National Shootout Tournament championship in Amarillo, Texas; and second place at the U.S. Open Tournament in Carson City, Nevada. Quam was selected to the all-tournament teams in both the National Shootout and the U.S. Open tournaments that year.
During the summer of 1992, Greg Quam was the left fielder for the Peninsula Oilers of Kenai in the Alaska Baseball League, and was selected to the All-Star Game. The Oilers went on to play in the NBC World Series in Wichita, Kansas.
