Great Yarmouth First Responders

Great Yarmouth First Responders are a group of volunteers trained by the East of England Ambulance Service to attend emergency 999 calls in order to provide lifesaving treatment prior to an Emergency Ambulance arriving on scene.
Who are we?
Great Yarmouth First Responders are volunteers who respond to emergency calls in the Great Yarmouth area on behalf of the East of England Ambulance Service to ensure the volunteer understands their role within the NHS and the Ambulance Service.
They will attend a weekend training course where they will be taught the following subjects:
Basic life support,
Use of automated external defibrillator (AED),
Oropharyngeal airways,
Suction,
Recovery position,
Oxygen therapy,
Choking patient,
Chest Pains,
Patient assessment,
Asthma,
Hyperventilation,
Reassuring a conscious patient,
Control of bleeding,
Fitting patient,
Allergies,
Diabetic emergencies,
Stroke patient.
As part of the course volunteers will be taught how to respond to an emergency call, communication with patients, infection control and also paperwork procedures.
Having completed the training they will undertake a written exam followed by practical scenarios.
Finance
Great Yarmouth First Responders themselves are not paid, being a First Responder is completely voluntary however the Community First Responder schemes are not funded by the East of England Ambulance Service<ref name=EEAS /> and rely solely on help from the publics donations. All donations are greatly appreciated and help in several ways, whether it’s donating money, donating a Responder Vehicle, maintaining a Responder Vehicle, paying for advertising space on their website etc.
