Great Neck Road

Great Neck Road is a thoroughfare that extends from Virginia Beach Boulevard to Shore Drive in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The speed limit is 35 mph upon entering from Virginia Beach Boulevard and traveling north but soon increases to 45 mph; a speed limit at which remains until the road's termination at Shore Drive. The roadway also travels over the Bay Island Bridge slightly south of Shore Drive; the only bridge that the road travels over.

Great Neck Road is a major north-south thoroughfare in Virginia Beach as the closest nearby north-south way to travel is either at the Oceanfront or along Independence Boulevard in the Pembroke area.

Not to be confused with Great Neck Road, nearby roads also include West Great Neck Road and Old Great Neck Road. These roads serve significantly less purpose than Great Neck Road.

Lack of bike paths
Unfortunately, Great Neck Road is not serviced by bike paths or bike-friendly shoulders, which can make it dangerous for cyclists to travel along the thoroughfare or other intersecting or adjacent roadways, particularly if one desires to travel from Little Lake Road to the nearby Schlotsky's Deli at the intersection of Donna Boulevard and First Colonial Road. Intersecting Great Neck Road near its terminus at Shore Drive is a bike path that travels into First Landing State Park.

Businesses, schools, churches
Significant businesses or locales along Great Neck Road include: John B. Dey Elementary School, Great Neck Middle School, Frank W. Cox High School, Great Neck Shoppes, Church of the Holy Family, Little Lake Road (though not directly adjacent to Great Neck Road), two Hardee's, two 7-11 stores, one Wendy's burger restaurant, and Cape Henry Hardware Store.
