Gotham Girls Junior Derby

Gotham Girls Junior Derby (GGJD) is flat track junior roller derby league based in New York City, New York and a member of the northeast region of the Junior Roller Derby Association (JRDA). GGJD was founded in May 2012, and is the only junior roller derby league in New York City. GGJD is affiliated with Gotham Girls Roller Derby (GGRD) and is coached by skaters of that league. They accept girls ages 8-18 and the program covers the basics of roller derby form, gameplay, and the current official Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) ruleset. GGJD has 3 levels of skaters, as does the JRDA. Level 1 is positional gameplay, Level 2 is light contact, and Level 3, which is full contact. The Gotham Girls Junior Derby travel team is composed exclusively of Level 3 skaters and plays both all-female and co-ed junior roller derby teams.

2011
Gotham Girls Roller Derby decides to hold roller derby lessons for young girls to teach the basics of roller derby form and gameplay to youths in the metropolitan New York area.
2012
Gotham Girls Junior Derby league is formed in May 2012. Gotham Juniors hold their first ever scrimmage against another team on October 20th, 2012 against the Hudson Valley Frightmares of Kingston, NY. They then hosted their first full length bout against Black Mamba Junior Derby of Syracuse, NY on November 11th, 2012. Gotham Juniors win the bout by 75 points, with the final score being 210-135 Gotham.
2013
Gotham Juniors officially joins the Junior Roller Derby Association in February 2013. The first co-captains of GGJD are chosen in February of 2012 as well. GGJD scrimmages Black Mambas again and wins 261-166. Gotham Juniors play in their first JRDA sanctioned bout versus the Hudson Valley Frightmares on May 10th, 2013 and win by over 300 points. The final score was 371-59 Gotham Juniors. Gotham Juniors move on to play NEO Juniors and Cincinnati Junior Rollergirls in Akron, Ohio on July 6th, 2013 in their first away bouts since the team was formed. Gotham Juniors lose to NEO by only two points (238-236 NEO), and also lose by only ten points to the Cincinnati Junior Rollergirls (234-224 Cincinnati). Gotham Juniors also played the Cleveland Rockstar Juniors of in Cleveland, Ohio on July 7th, 2013 and took home a win to end the weekend (222-169 Gotham Juniors). GGJD then played the Red Bank Riots on July 14th, 2013 at the Abe Stark Arena in Coney Island, New York. After 23 minutes, the Riots forfeited the game and it was recorded as a win for the Gotham Juniors at 170-7 Gotham Juniors. They then played NEO juniors again in a rematch bout at the Abe Stark Arena on August 3rd, 2013 which the Gotham Juniors lost.
2014
Gotham Junior skater Sadistic Fibrosis was the first skater to age out and after trying out, joins the rankings of Gotham Girls Roller Derby's adult league. Gotham Juniors play in another set of away games at the Blood and Thunderdome in Nashville, TN against the Mad Divas of Asheville, NC and the Nashvillians junior derby team on May 24, 2014. Gotham Juniors took a win against the Mad Divas, but lose to the Nashvillains. They travel to Huntsville, AL to play the RAD Recruits of Huntsville, AL on May 25, 2014 and take home the win. Gotham Juniors scrimmage against Little City of Johnson City, TN on June 20th, 2014 at the East Coast Derby Extravaganza (ECDX) in Philadelphia, PA, however, they take a loss. In July 2014, GGJD holds their first ever Basics Skating and Derby Summer Camp. On July 19, 2014, GGJD plays in a rematch game against the Cleveland Rockstars and win again. In August of 2014, Gotham Juniors headed to the 2014 JRDA Championship tournament in Daytona Beach, FL.
