Goldie Steinberg (née Gurfinkel; October 30, 1900 - August 16, 2015) was a Jewish Moldovan-born American supercentenarian who at the age of , was the world's sixth oldest living person, as well as the second oldest person living in the United States behind Susannah Mushatt Jones. She was the oldest person ever born in the Russian Empire and the oldest verified Jew. Biography Steinberg was born in Kishinev in the Russian Empire (now , Moldova), one of eight children born to Chazkel and Dvoira Gurfinkel. She was a survivor of the 1903 Kishinev pogrom in which 49 Jews died and 500 were injured over two days. In 1923, she and her two sisters emigrated to the United States. She married Philip Steinberg in 1932. Her husband, who died in 1967, worked as a jeweler on Fulton Street. She worked as a seamstress until she retired at age 80. She lived independently until she was 104.
