Goise

Goise

Goise, pronounced like "noise", is a 'wild-card' slang word, widely used among all age groups throughout the United States. You may have heard the rage yourself. You may know someone who uses this term and wondered what it means and why you've been hearing it.

The word itself is unique, for it has no actual meaning. It can be used as a verb or a noun, depending on the application. Many use the word simply when they can think of no other comment. Example: (person 1): "I found a new coat that has a hood, I'm happy about that." (person 2): "umm....goise."

Goise can also be used as a greeting, usually to unexpecting strangers. You can simply yell Goise! (for no apparent reason, of course) to someone walking down the street, or say "Goise!" to someone who holds the door open for you. In these cases, goise can be used as a verb, especially in past-tense. Example: "I goised someone today!"

The possibilities are endless really. Goise is not intended to be used as an insult, although unwary strangers, upon hearing the strange greeting, may take it as such.

A person who loyally uses the word, despite any who find it strange, is referred to as a "goiserclause", a take-off of names such as "Santa Clause".
