GoGo Tech

GoGoTech Limited (also known as GoGoVan) is an Asian mobile technology company headquartered in Hong Kong. In July 2013, the company launched the first logistic booking mobile application (GoGoVan) on both Android and Apple app stores in Hong Kong. GoGoVan allows users with smartphones to submit a logistic request to the GoGoVan drivers and vehicles. As of 2016, the service was available in 13 cities in Asia, including in Hong Kong, Singapore, mainland China,Taiwan, South Korea, and India.
GoGoVan along with another 2 starup companies, Yeechoo and Shopline, are selected for an investment programme under Alibaba’s HK$1 billion fund for entrepreneurs in Hong Kong.
The legality of GoGoVan has always been challenged by the Government of Hong Kong and traditional logistic/taxi companies. They allege that its vehicles are taking passengers are unsafe and illegal. Some taxi and van drivers have called GoGoVan offering "pirate taxis".
Regulatory
In Hong Kong, it is illegal to carry passengers with rewards unless the drivers get a taxi license.Two GoGoVan drivers were arrested after police posed as customers who used the service without any goods in the van.One was sentenced to be fined HK$2,500 and his licence suspended for 12 months. Another one was sentenced to two weeks in jail.
Criticisms
Monopoly
GoGoVan was accused of trying to monopolize the market. GoGoVan and other online logistic companies brought increased competition to traditional logistics industry. One result has been a decline in the traditional logistic business. Van/truck drivers have accordingly registered as GoGoVan drivers for living. As time went on, GoGoVan employed local van drivers that monopolize Hong Kong's private logistic market. Since GoGoVan employed too many drivers and make the competition grown stiffer. Some drivers complained that it was difficult to take orders.
Priate Taxis
Hong Kong's taxi drivers protested against the influx of competition from Uber and GoGoVan. Although GoGoVan is an online logistic app for freight delivery, taxi drivers in general believe some GoGoVan drivers do provide passengers transportation services.
