NLP as a tool for change

Gary Wesselhoff--Network Analyst by day, "gman Blues" solo acoustic performer by night has attributed Neural Linguistic Programming (NLP)and autosuggestion as the sources of dramatic growth and change in his life.

It started during the millennium year, while watching some friends of his perform--suddenly Gary at the age of forty-six became overcome with the desire to change the direction of his life. That night Gary had a lucid dream in which he was the headliner at a major concert. In the dream Gary played with many great now deceased blues music players of the 1960’s. The dream was so powerful and clear that he decided to chase that vision.

There were many obstacles to overcome. Although he played guitar in college with a Chicago area band called Woodlind in the 1970s, his playing had atrophied into a state of ineffectuality. He had psychological roadblocks in his path as well. Considered by Rock and roll culture as past his prime—both age and appearance Gary set off on a course to challenge the culture.
It began with a new identity persona thought up by his wife of twenty years Carla. “gman Blues” is the handle that she gave him. Gman developed a program of NLP and self hypnosis to help him overcome his apprehension of appearing as a middle aged rocker modeled upon the theories of Barrie Konicov and NLP as presented by Tony Robbins to overcome fear, motivate change, and short-cut through years of trial and error. He put himself on an accelerated schedule not having ten to twenty years to learn the ropes.

Gman created a series of messages addressing his fears, and strengthening his intensity regarding writing, producing, and performing his own material. Every night Gary would sleep to these messages playing over and over through a set of head phones.

The progress he has made is notable. He has taken the first steps of his dream and written, recorded, and released his first album; a collection of blues, acoustic rock, and pop pieces titled “g-force”. He has performed both live and on pod-casts; his web-site regularly get hits from approximately eighty-eight countries from around the world. It’s gratifying to Gary when he discovers places as remote as Tuvalu tuning into his pod-casts, and downloading his songs.

So far gman hasn’t been on the grand stages of rock, but it is a mark he is moving to.
