The Graham Laming Biodiesel Processor is a revolutionary design for a homemade biodiesel processor. Design The "GL 1 Day" method is a revolutionary combined biodiesel reactor/processor design and process designed by Graham Laming. The design includes a processor tank and methanol recovery system by means of a condensor and venturi.
The process is unique in that methanol is recovered out of the finished biodiesel and soaps and impurities are settled by gravity in a fairly short period of time. The process negates the requirement for a comprehensive water washing stage or impurity removal by filtration.
Until recently hobbyist or small scale biodiesel processing involved multiple components. Specifically, a heating vessel for the raw oil, a processor for the reaction to take place, and a washing tank or other means of removing soaps, excess methanol and other contaminants from the finished product. The "GL 1 Day" method simplifies the design of the system and furthermore the processes involved into an affordable and relatively safe compact design. By the inclusion of a condenser, a venturi and various valves that can be in the open or closed configuration the system design allows for methanol recovery by means of condensation from both the processed biodiesel and the glycerol byproduct. In turn, this allows for easy gravity seperation of the soaps over a period of a few days in the final storage tank.
