Gian Carlo Guicciardi, born on 5 September 1940 in Spilamberto - Modena, is an Italian luthier. He grew up at the school of Ansaldo Poggi where he spent some 15 years (1965-1980)before starting a career on his own. He is a true expression of the modern Luthier School of Bologna being linked directly to the name of the masters: Raffaele Fiorini (1828-1998), Giuseppe Fiorini (1861-1934) Ansaldo Poggi (1893 - 1984) as the map on the right side clearly shows. His instruments are well known worldwide and appreciated and played by many musicians. He is an authority in the luthier world, active during the years in many luthier guild associations, he is a past president of EILA (International Society of Violin and Bow Makers), of which he is still an active fellow. He has been called upon as a consultant by the Walter Stauffer Foundation to evaluate exceptional pieces of luthiery (a violin by Giovanni Battista Ceruti 1865, a viola by Girolamo Amati 1620 and the Antonio Stradivari cello named "Cristiani" 1700). He has been in the jury of many luthier contests: Wiesbaden, Baveno, Cremona, Bagnacavallo, to name a few.
