The Vernon Hornets are an Independent Baseball team based in the area of Connecticut. They are associated with the Greater Hartford Independent Baseball League (formerly part of the National Adult Baseball Association). The team was founded in 2006. The team started off under the team name The Rainmakers. After a season where the only win came from a forfeit, the manager and players needed a fresh look and attitude. That is when they officially renamed the team the Vernon Hornets. Since the name change, the Hornets have gone 20-29, including a 5-2 start to the 2009 season, that currently has them tied for first place in the league. The Roster consist of current, and former college baseball players from New England. Some of the schools that current players attended or have attended are UMass Boston University, Framingham State College, UConn University, Quinnipiac University, and University of Rhode Island. Behind stellar pitching performances, superb defense, and beastly hitting The Hornets are ready to make their mark in the GHIBL and compete for a GHIBL title. http://www.vernonhornets.com/
