GetLenses.co.uk is an online retailer of contact lenses, contact lens solutions and eye care products. Overview In the UK a customer needs to go to an opticians (shop) on the high street to be fitted with contact lenses and purchase a fixed price eye examination, from which the optician will issue a written prescription. This can then be used at any opticians to order contact lenses. A common complaint is that the prices UK high street opticians charge for contact lenses are too high. GetLenses.co.uk attempts to undercut high street opticians by supplying contact lenses at a lower cost. History Getoptics Group Ltd., was formed in 2009 to acquire GetLenses.co.uk. PostOptics has already been acquired while Octopus investment funded the acquisition of GetLenses with an investment of £1.355 million. One of the Octopus investors was Simon Murdoch who founded and ran Bookpages.co.uk, which became Amazon UK on October 15, 1998. Simon Murdoch is the Chairman of Getoptics Group Ltd. Getoptics Group Ltd., is led by chief executive Michael Kraftman, who was a director of Optical Partners, the former parent company of PostOptics. Kraftman is a serial retail entrepreneur who previously founded Bonsai, one of the UK’s first computer retailers and was subsequently instrumental in the growth of Tempo the electrical retailer.
