The German International School, also known as Deutsche Schule Chennai (DSC), is the first bilingual school in Chennai, India. The school was founded in 2009 and inaugurated on January 24 in 2010 with the former General Council of the Federal Republic of Germany Hans-Burkhardt Sauerteig and the former Director of the ZFA Asia (Zentralstelle für das Auslandsschulwesen - Bureau for German Schools Abroad) present. Starting with Nursery and Kindergarten the school soon managed to open preschool and primary school, as well. With the necessary moving into a more spacious facility in June 2011 the German School Chennai also established secondary school up to class 7. DSC follows the Thuringian curriculum. In its conceptional framework it orientates on latest recommendations of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. The education is bilingual (German and English) from Kindergarten on. Classes are emphasizing on student-centred and project work rather than teacher-centred teaching and therefore have a strong interdisciplinary character. As from November 2011, around 20 students were visiting the school, coming from countries like Germany, India, Poland, Sweden and South Korea.
