Georgia right to life

The Georgia Right to Life Committee, Inc. (GRTL) is a non-profit, non-partisan, non-sectarian organization whose fundamental purpose is to engage in actions that will restore respect and effective legal protection for all human beings from the moment of fertilization until natural death. Incorporated in 1971, GRTL is Georgia's state affiliate of the National Right to Life Committee in Washington, D.C. GRTL serves as Georgia's major pro-life organization, with local chapters across the state and over 225,000 identified pro-life households. The group works through legislation and education to work against abortion, infanticide, euthanasia and assisted suicide.

GRTL is organized for legal and peaceful activities in the areas of education, legislation, and political action. Board members, employees, chapter officers, and chairpersons are prohibited from participating in illegal and/or violent activities.

Education:
GRTL's educational projects include the , and conducts multimedia presentations for youth and seminars for adults to educate on the life issues.

Legislation:
In past years, GRTL has passed incremental pro-life bills, such as informed consent laws and parental notification laws. In 2007, GRTL changed strategy by working for a to the GA constitution. In March of 2007, a bi-partisan group of Georgia legislators offered the nation’s first [, . If successful, Georgia will become the first “Pro-life” state in the nation establishing the “personhood” of each of its citizens from fertilization until natural death.

Using language provided by the Thomas More Law Center, an advocacy group for pro-life causes, states:


“Paramount right to life. (a) The rights of every person shall be recognized, among which in the first place is the inviolable right of every innocent human being to life. The right to life is the paramount and most fundamental right of a person.
(b) With respect to the fundamental and inalienable rights of all persons guaranteed in this Constitution, the word 'person' applies to all human beings, irrespective of age, race, sex, health, function, or condition of dependency, including unborn children at every state of their biological development, including fertilization.”



Political Action:
The role of (GRTL PAC) is to inform the pro-life community which candidates are considered to be the strongest and most effective voice for the unborn.

Violence:
GRTL is strictly non-violent. GRTL opposes violence against babies and against the abortionists who kill them. GRTL bylaws state that GRTL will not "encourage . . . condone . . . or participate in illegal activity of any kind." All GRTL activities are totally legal, peaceful, and usually reverent. GRTL does not engage in civil disobedience. All GRTL activities fall within the legal bounds of the First Amendment.
