1995-2000
Software Consulting
The domain was first registered in 1995, by Geoffrey Nicholls, a Palo Alto software consultant. Educated at the University of Oregon, Nicholls began Gazelle Consulting (formerly Geoffrey Nicholls Consulting) on the basis of his experience from employment at HP, Digital Research, Inc., and Microsoft during the early nineties. He used the domain to advertise, and later, to sell, his consulting and Microsoft Windows development services.
Hoisery Store
In mid 2000, Gazelle.com changed hands and reemerged as an internet hosiery retailer. Branding itself "the specialty store for your legs," the Stamford, Connecticut internet store sold hosiery, socks, and leg care products for women, men, and children. gazelle.com, Inc. raised $8 million in series A funding from Minotaur Capital Management, Inc. and Minotaur Partners L.P. in February, 2008, a Chicago private-merchant bank.
2001-2007
Management Consulting
After gazelle.com, Inc. let the name lapse in late 2001, the Gazelle.com domain sat unused until November, 2002, when Gazelle Consulting, Inc. purchased it. The company was based in Atlanta and was run by Dave Upton and Bill Whittemore. Specialising in Data Warehousing solutions, Gazelle Conulting, Inc. allowed other companies to outsource their data operations and streamline their information processes.. The company folded in October, 2005, but retained the use of the Gazelle.com domain for several more year.
2008-present
ReCommerce Agent (Purchaser of Used Electronic Gadgets)
Gazelle.com's current owner, Second Rotation, Inc, acquired the rights to the domain in 2007 and continues to hold them through 2018. A Massachusetts-based internet startup founded by Rousseau Aurelien in 2006 as 'Second Rotation, the company uses its dynamic pricing engine to purchase used from consumers and recycle those that no longer have any market value.

Currently Gazelle supports the categories of cellphones, laptops, mp3 players, digital cameras, camcorders, video game consoles, and GPS devices. On July 28, 2008, support for two more categories was announced: Satellite Radios and Portable Hard Drives. Besides earning several notable mentions from press outlets such as ABC, [http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22425001/vp/26035435#26035435 NBC], CNN, TechCrunch, and others, Gazelle has received attention from venture capitalists, receiving 4.4 million dollars in Series A funding from Venrock in January, 2008.

The company has also incorporated an environmental theme into its messages, arguing that reuse is actually the best form of recycling. Gazelle's Vice President of Marketing, Dan Smith, has coined the term 'Recommerce' to describe the startup's environmental aims.
