Gary Zenker

Gary Zenker is a fiction author. He is also the owner of White Lightning Publishing, founded in 2013. Since 2013, the company has published 12 volumes for sale to the public and a number of private edition volumes. Zenker also has a career in marketing.
Writing Career
Zenker’s earliest work includes participation in his high school newspaper, The Observer, for which he served as co-editor during his senior year. He also co-authored and published a parody of the high school handbook while in school.
During his freshman year in College, he was a staff member of the Hullabaloo, the campus humor magazine. For his sophomore through senior years, he served as co-editor, putting out an issue each year and two newspaper parody issues during his college attendance. He also served as a regular columnist for the College Reporter in his senior year, writing humorous slice-of-life columns a la Dave Barry.
Following graduation, Zenker edited several of his columns and began publishing them along with newly written columns in a Harrisburg, Pennsylvania weekly, the Upper Dauphin Sentinel. One of those columns, Real People, won first place in a 1983 Harrisburg Writers Group writing contest.
Several years later, his columns were published in a group of weekly southeastern Pennsylvania weekly newspapers, including the Roxborough Review, Today’s Post, and the King of Prussia Courier. The columns ran almost a year.
Since that time, he has authored several books, including Says Seth: Life Observations from a Six Year Old Perspective and "Deathfarts - More Says Seth" with his son Seth Zenker; and "Meetup Leader: How To Run A Successful and Profitable Meetup Group." He is also the editor of "The Ultimate DC Comics Action Figures and Collectibles Checklist"; "Beach Boys Archives, Volumes 1, 2, 3 and 4"; and "Jan & Dean Archives Volumes 1, 2, and 3."
His flash fiction has been featured online on FiftyWordStories.com and Smashed Cat Magazine. His essay, 'The Super Power I Want Most' was selected as a winner of an Oxford University Press sponsored contest.
Writer's Community
In 2009, he founded the Main Line Writers Group. In 2013, that group issued its first print and electronic collection, Unclaimed Baggage: Voices of the Main Line Writers, for which he wrote the book foreward. In 2014, he founded the Wilmington Writers Group. Both groups continue to meet monthly. He also runs the Self Publishing For Writers Group in Devon, Pennsylvania, founded in 2011. The three groups offer writers of all genre an environment to hone their craft, learn about topics related to writing and publishing, and share the knowledge with others.
Marketing Career
Zenker's marketing work spans industries and includes financial services, home construction, technology, pharmaceutical, and other B-to-B and B-to-C areas. His work has received a variety of awards, including AD-Q and Readex Awards for highest reader recall in pharmaceuticals, ABA marketing award, PA Bankers Association Awardand six separate CUNA marketing awards including their highest honor, the inaugural CUNA Best Practices Branding Award for financial services marketing.
