Future of the Bangladesh Air Force

The Bangladesh Air Force has been undergoing a modernization programme to replace its aging and outdated equipment and expand it's aircraft fleet and defense system. The modernization program was first introduced during 2008, as a part of Forces Goal 2030, and since then. The Air Force has started procuring aircraft, weapons, associated technologies and infrastructure. The primary focus of the first phase of modernization program is to train air force personnel with 4.5 - 5 generation aircraft and other modernized technologies, before a massive fighter jet procurement, which is expected to start around 2018. According to defense ministry, the purpose behind the modernization is to develop a three dimension armed forces, where Air force can give a tactical support to army on ground operations and navy on water. From 2008 to 2015, BAF added 59 aircraft to it's fleet, including Yakovlev Yak-130, Mil Mi-171 and Chengdu J-7.
