Fund for the Education of Women of Africa

The Fund for the Education of Women of Africa (FEWA) is a non-profit organization that offers African adult women the support necessary to enable them to return to school to complete primary, secondary, and post-secondary degrees. According to the UNDP's Human Development Report, across Sub-Saharan Africa, 72% of African girls never enter high school and 96% don't attend college or university. Many girls are taken out of primary school to be married, and never complete their basic education. FEWA offers such women a second chance to further their schooling. For adult women who want to return to school, there are special challenges to overcome.
FEWA provides assistance in the form of direct grants for tuition, books, supplies, child care, transportation, health care, clothing, and family support. Adult women, especially when they are married and mothers, bear many responsibilities that must be met, even while they are in school.
FEWA is currently supporting women in Kenya and Liberia, but its mandate includes all of Africa, wherever there are women determined to overcome the disadvantages of their youth to complete their schooling as adults.
