French naked

Meaning
"French naked" is a popular slang term. Its general meaning is someone who is naked only on the bottom half of their body, Someone is French naked for example when they are wearing a baseball cap and backpack but no other clothes.
First Use
Its first use is difficult to trace but it popularity is believed to have developed in the early twenty first century in England. The word has often been associated with naturists and used within commentary of articles referring to naturists.
Background to the meaning
The meaning of the phrase is linked to the social stereotype of quiet confident French women (a certain "je ne sais quoi") and the general belief of French women being more comfortable with nudity. Only someone with this quiet confidence could pull-off the look of being full naked on the bottom half of the body whilst full clothed on top, the phrase has been expanded to include naturists who are partially clothed but full naked on the bottom half of their bodies. The link to the French is also due to their forward thinking in areas of nudity, for example the acceptance of the bikini
