Fred M. Levin

Fred M. Levin is a practicing psychotherapist in Chicago, Illinois as well as an Associate Professor of Clinical Psychiatry, Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University, Chicago and Evanston, Illinois.
He is a member of a number of psychoanalysis medical societies such as the International Psychoanalytic Association, the American Psychoanalytic Association , American College of Psychoanalysts, the Chicago Psychoanalytic Society and a life fellow at the American Psychiatric Association.
He has contributed to scholarly publications and written books, including: Mapping the Mind (1991), Psyche and Brain (2003), Psychotherapy Pearls (2006) and Emotion and the Psychodynamics of the Cerebellum (2009) .
After graduating from medical school during the Vietnam War, he volunteered to serve his country and was the director of an army hospital in Vietnam.
He is fluent in both Japanese and Sign language and has conducted pioneering work on mental illness of the deaf and establishing the MENDAC Institute (Mental Health Needs of Deaf Adults and Children) while at Michael Reese Hospital. While in Japan, he taught at Fukushima University.
