Fraser Anning egg incident

On 16 March 2019, Australian senator Fraser Anning was hit with an egg while he made a statement regarding the Christchurch mosque shootings. The egg was crushed on the back of Anning's head reportedly by William Connolly at a conference in Moorabbin, Victoria who was simultaneously filming the action on a mobile phone. In response, Anning twice struck the teenager in the face. Connolly was later dubbed "Eggboi" on social media. Eggboi was later praised as a hero and people have began donating money for more eggs.
Background
On 15 March 2019, a white supremacist gunman killed 50 people in the Christchurch mosque shootings in New Zealand. Immediately after that, far-right independent Australian Senator Fraser Anning released an official statement that was widely condemned both within and outside Australia for being Islamophobic and insensitive to the victims of the terrorist attack. Within a day of his statement, a petition calling for his expulsion from the Australian parliament had amassed 250,000 signatures.
Incident
On 16 March 2019 Anning held a press conference in Moorabbin, Melbourne, where he suggested that the cause of the attack on New Zealand Muslims was Islamic violence.
Responses
*A GoFundMe was started to support the teenager's legal fees and purchase of more eggs, and claimed to have raised over A$10,000 in under 24 hours.
*After video of the incident spread on social media, many people spread messages of support for the teenager.
*Satirical publication The Chaser declared: "No further nominations to be accepted for Australian of the Year 2020".
*People directly affected by the attack in Christchurch were cheered by the event, one man who is a member of the targeted Al Noor mosque saying it had "made his day".
*The English-language Egyptian website Egyptian Streets reported that the teenager had become a symbol of anti-racism on social media within the country.
*Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison suggested that the “full force of the law” should be applied to Anning.
