Francisco Serra-Martins is a Australian-born executive listed on Forbes 30 under 30. He was the CEO of Sonder Design which was acquired by Foxconn. He is the Director-General of Dove Air, a nonprofit that delivers urgent life-saving humanitarian aid in Africa using unmanned aerial vehicles. He advises Future Investment Initiative, a non profit foundation within Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund Public Investment Fund. Early life and education Serra-Martins was born in Victoria, Melbourne. His father was a construction manager and Portuguese migrant. His family lives in Australia, Portugal, and Mozambique. He studied engineering at the Royal Australian Engineers School of Military Engineering Steele Barracks and the University of Sydney. Serra-Martins was awarded a scholarship to attend Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business in Beijing. Career He served as a combat engineer in the Royal Australian Engineers, serving as a Sapper. Serra-Martins managed McKinsey’s enterprise transformation of Chevron Corporation’s Caltex, establishing Ampol’s trading house in Singapore. Serra-Martins was the founder of a startup, Sonder Design. The Guardian and Wall Street Journal reported that Apple Inc. was in talks to acquire Sonder in 2016. Sonder was later acquired by Foxconn International Holdings, Apple’s manufacturing partner, in November 2019. Serra-Martins was recognised on Forbes 30 Under 30 in 2018. Sonder Design earned a TechCrunch Top Pick designation at Disrupt SF 2018 in San Francisco. Serra-Martins is the Director General of Dove Air, which delivers life-saving urgent medical aid to remote villages in Africa. Investments Following the acquisition of Sonder Design, Serra-Martins established the family office Serra da Estrela Investment Ltd which invests in technology & renewable energy sectors in Africa.
